International Social Networks
Since I am leaving for Study Abroad in Italy in just over a week, I think it would be interesting to discuss the social media platforms which have gained a lot of popularity in countries outside the United States. Networks like Facebook and Myspace are used throughout the world, but many countries have networks which are even more popular.
1. Orkut
Orkut is a social network much like Facebook and is actually owned by Google. I have recently joined the site and am still trying to get the hang of it. In both India and Brazil, Orkut is more popular than Facebook.
2. RenRen
RenRen is a popular social networking website primarily used in China and directly translates too “everyone network”. Like Orkut, this site is very similar to Facebook. It is most popular among college students in China.
3. Hi5
Hi5 is a popular network throughout the world, and more specifically in Europe, Latin America and Asia. It is used in the North America as well but not as much as in the other continents mentioned.
4. Bebo
Bebo is another popular network to look out for in Europe. Like the previous networks I discussed, Bebo is much like Facebook.
Which international social network will you be trying out next?
